Abstract

Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of chicken eggshell with and without CO2 laser on human enamel white spot lesions compared to sodium fluoride gel.

Material and methods: To produce white patches on tooth enamel, (30) maxillary first premolars were divided into three distinct groups at randomly and then kept in a demineralizing liquid. Eggshell gel was used in the first group, CO2 laser irradiation with eggshell gel in the second, and sodium fluoride gel in the third. Following that, teeth were submerged in artificial saliva for 30 days.

The enamel surface's hardness by Vickers was determined. One sample from each group was analyzed using a scanning electron microscope (SEM) to display the morphological characteristics of the enamel surface. Tukey's test and two-way evaluation of variance (ANOVA) were used to assess the data.

Results: The degree of microhardness for enamel white spot lesions increased in all three groups under study. Eggshell gel with CO2 laser therapy (group 2) increased microhardness more than sodium fluoride gel treatment (group 3) and somewhat more than eggshell gel treatment alone (group 1).

Conclusion: The using  of eggshell gel, eggshell gel with CO2 laser, sodium fluoride gel are suggested to reharden the tooth enamel and the treatment with eggshell gel with CO2 laser showed a higher increasement in microhardness than sodium fluoride gel.
